COMMUNITY CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY en
Description
The course offers an introduction to the principles and practices of community clinical psychology. The students will be introduced to the main models of understanding and treatment of mental health problems, their historical development and the critiques against them, as well as in the existing system of community mental health services. The course will cover the role of sociocultural factors in the emergence and course of mental disorders, as well as issues concerning the implication of the law in the treatment of persons with mental health problems. Emphasis will be placed on the development of advocacy, empowerment and self-help aiming to promote recovery in the field of mental health.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course students will:
•have knowledge of the principles, theories and practices of community work in the field of mental health
•have knowledge of the main approaches to understanding and treatment of mental disorders
•be aware of the role of sociocultural factors in the emergence and course of mental disorders
•be aware of the principles of organization and functioning of community mental health services
•be aware of legal issues in the treatment of persons with mental disorders
•be familiar with the concepts of advocacy, empowerment and self-help, as well as the principle of recovery in mental health
