NEW FORMS OF PARENTHOOD en
Description
Τhe present course deals with changes in parenthood in the Western World during the 20th century. More specifically the issues that will be discussed are divorce, second marriages, one parent families, same sex families and homosexual parenting. Furthermore, also issues such as gamete donation and surrogate motherhood that changed the notion of motherhood (genetic mother,pregnancy, and social mother) and parenthood (genetic father, social father) as well as the effects of all these changes on parents and children will be analyzed in depth.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course students should be in able to
1. to understand the effects of divorce and remarriage on children at different developmental phases
2.to understand what is important for a child to grow up in a healthy psychological environment
3.to understand what is important for motherhood (genetic link, pregnancy, child care)
4.to understand what is important for fatherhood (genetic link, child care)
