PSYCHOPATHOLOGY OF CHILDHOOD AND ADOLESCENCE en
Description
The course is an introduction to the field of developmental psychopathology, that is to say, the mental disorders encountered during childhood and adolescence. During the course the main disorders will be covered, including autism, mental retardation, anxiety disorders, mood disorders, schizophrenia, conduct disorders, eating disorders and substance abuse, organized in groups of disorders depending on the developmental phase they first appear. The course also covers broader issues regarding mental disorders, such as the models for understanding mental disorders, the limits between normality and pathology, the factors that affect the mental health of children and adolescents, as well as the prevention, evaluation and treatment of mental disorders.
Learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course students will
• understand the main groups of disorders that appear in childhood and adolescence
• be familiar with the main approaches in understanding and treatment of mental disorders in childhood and adolescence
• be aware of the specificities of mental health issues in different developmental periods
