Approaches to understanding human development. Heredity and environment. Prenatal development and childbirth. Infancy and toddlers: Physical, cognitive, and language development. Personality and sociocultural development in infancy and toddlerhood. Early childhood: Physical, cognitive, and language development. Personality and sociocultural development in early childhood.
Learning outcomes
To enable students to understand:
i) the fundamentals of human development,
ii)the biological, psychodynamic, behavioural and cognitive views of human development,
iii) the contribution of heredity and environment on human development,
iv) the research methods studying human development,
v) thε prenatal period,
vi) the physical, cognitive and language development in infancy, toddlerhood and in early childhood,
vii)the personality and sociocultural development in infancy, toddlerhood and in early childhood,
and viii) to understand the importance of early experiences on later development.
