Description
Organizational Psychology is the field of Applied Psychology that utilizes scientific methodology to better understand individuals' behavior in organizational/work settings. The main aim of this course is the study of new research trends in understanding organizational behavior, as well as the familiarization with ways in which organizational psychology is applied in organizational practice. This course consists of lectures and workshops.
During the lectures the following topics are covered:
1) The role of organizational psychologists in the personnel selection process;
2) Job analysis as a tool for personnel recruitment and selection;
3) Methods in personnel selection;
4) The selection interview;
5) Performance appraisal;
6) New research trends in the study of attitudes and emotions in organizations;
7) Spillover and crossover of attitudes and behaviors;
8) Psychological and Social capital at work;
9) New technologies and work behavior;
10)Within-person variations in the study of organizational attitudes and behaviors and related methodological challenges.

During the practicum, students will participate in exercises aiming at implementing theory in practice. Also, students will work in groups to put together a mini-scale, research proposal on a relevant topic in organizational psychology.
Learning outcomes
Upon succesful completion of the course, students:
- Will understand the contribution of Psychology in understanding the personnel selection process in organizations;
- Will be in a position to apply basic methods of personnel recruitment, selection and appraisal in organizations;
- Will understand recent challenges with regard to studying attitudes and behaviors in organizations;
- Will be trained in advance methodologies that may address these challenges;
- Will understand the impact of new technologies on organizational behavior.
