FEMINIST PSYCHOLOGY en
Description
The course is an introduction to the field of Feminist Psychology, within which there is both theory and research on gender identities and gender power relations, as well as, on practices for counselling women. Historically, the division of Feminist Psychology has challenged the moral, political and scientific claims of the scientific field of Psychology, while trying to influence its orientation in terms of gender equality and the inclusion of the female experience. Overall, the course includes the following modules: the history of the feminist movement, the feminist approaches towards sexism and patriarchy, the development of gender identities, the feminist critique to Psychology, feminist theories of personality, feminist therapy, counselling women victims of gender-based violence, gender discrimination in women' s educational and professional development, and counselling people of the LGBTQI+ community.
Learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, students will (a) develop an understanding of the theoretical principles of a critical approach towards the field of Psychology, (b) recognise the patriarchal societal structures as well as the diversity of feminist perspectives, (c) recognise gender power relations in society, (d) acquire a feminist awareness and, finally, (e) develop gender sensitive skills for counselling women and other vulnerable groups.
