Description
The course “English I” aims at introducing students to the current trends of the discipline of psychology through the use of academic textbooks and research articles. Branches of Psychology covered are: Gognitive Psychology, Developmental Psychology, and Educational Psychology. Through the texts used, students will develop skills leading to academic literacy so that students will be able to:
a. function in a broader academic community where English is a lingua franca and
b. acquire the language skills they will need to become members of the discourse community of psychologists as well as more general skills that are necessary for their professional development.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, students are expected to:
• understand theories, notions and terms related to psychology as these are presented and analyzed in English academic textbooks and research articles
• become familiarized with lexical and syntactic structures used in academic texts of the discipline of psychology
• become familiarized with the conventions of academic discourse in written texts of the discipline of psychology.
